About the CO-OP

Why a yarn co-op?

The previous yarn store (Warm Hearts) sadly closed. However, the need for fantastic yarn in the Los Alamos Community still remained! We started the co-op to provide wonderful yarn and knitting/crochet products. Also, to keep the yarn community CLOSE-KNIT!

Our Classes

 The following are the classes we have scheduled. 


We update the list of classes often, so make sure to check in either on our website or Facebook for what classes we are offering!


 To sign up for a class, call the store during business hours, send an email, reach out via Facebook message, or come on by.  Remember that CKYC subscribers get a 20% discount on all class fees.  


Class Policy: Any class that doesn't have at least one confirmed attendee forty-eight hours in advance will be canceled.

Beginner and Introductory Classes

Yarnology

Date: March 7 (Saturday)

Time: 11:00 AM - noon

Details:  FREE, but limited to 10. Register in advance!


 Learn to Knit

Date: March 8 (Sunday)

Time: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Details:  Learn to knit with expert instructor Mary!  She'll teach you the basics of knit and purl while you learn to make a simple hat.  This three-hour, single-session class costs $40, and materials are included.  


 Learn to Crochet

Date: March 15 (Sunday)

Time: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Details:  This three-hour, single-session class costs $40, and materials are included.  


Give Spinning a Whor 

Date: March 29 (Sunday)

Time: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Details:  Interested in learning to spin yarn? Come try spinning on both a drop spindle and wheel. Everything is provided: wool, spindles, wheels. (Not recommended for people allergic to wool.) This class is ONLY about spinning - it's not about preparing raw wool for use, although that process will be outlined briefly. CKYC has spindles and fiber for sale if participants are interested in continuing. If participants already own a spindle or wheel, they are welcome to bring theirs to class. 

This three-hour, single-session class costs $20, and all materials are provided

Knit an Icelandic Sweater 

Date:  February 7, 14, 21 (Friday)

Time: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Details:   The perfect followup to the My First Sweater class!  Join expert instructor Doris as she guides you in swatching, fitting, and knitting an Icelandic sweater.  This two-hour, three-session class is FREE with purchase of materials (we have suitable yarns for every taste and budget). 


Learn to Knit Mittens Sessions 2 & 3 

Date:  February 9, 16 (Sunday)

Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Details:   Winter is coming, and hands get cold. Warm them up with quick-to-make mittens worked on double-pointed needles. In this class you will learn how to cast onto DPNs and knit in the round; two decreases, K2tog and SSK; closing the mitten with the kitchener stitch, aka "grafting"; picking up stitches.
This is a great way to learn a lot of skills that come in handy for many kinds of projects. And you end up with a mitten!


This three-session, two-hour class costs $60 and materials are included.  (Class 1, casting on and ribbing in the round
Class 2, forming the hand and thumb hole
Class 3, decreases, grafting, and picking up stitches for thumb)

Stitch Surfer Socks

Date:  February 28 (Friday)

Time: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Details:    Ready to take your sock knitting to the next level?  Why not try intarsia?  Join expert instructor Wendy as she guides you in beginning the Stitch Surfer socks.  This two-hour, single-session class is suitable for intermediate to advanced sock knitters and costs $10.  (Required materials: approximately 50g each of two contrasting colors sock yarn.  Purchase at the store or bring some from stash.) 


 My First Sweater 

Date: March 1 (Sunday)

Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Details:  Do you long to knit (or crochet) a sweater but don't know where to start? Did you try to knit a sweater and give up halfway through? Have you knit a dozen sweaters that wouldn't fit anybody? If so, this is the class for you. Mary will help you choose the perfect yarn and pattern, guide you in the swatching process, and show you how to use that information to make a sweater that fits like a dream.


This two-hour, single-session class costs $40 or is FREE with purchase of materials.


 Knit the Central Park Hoodie 

Date:  March 6, 13, 20 (Friday)

Time: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Details:  $40 or FREE with purchase of materials; three sessions
